We have many people here who help out with the care of our church in different ways. Everything from hoovering the floor to polishing the silver....

Cindy always launders the purificators, which sounds like a small job but they are all soaked and boiled in a pan. Liz does the polishing of the wooden statues, again a very fiddly job, and she also is often seen cleaning the glass in the porch as well as bleaching up the sink. Bill polishes and straightens the chairs, Janet picks up the crumbling porch, Joan cleans the Lady Chapel, Brough changes the light bulbs in the chandeliers.

The vestry needs plenty of care and attention with so much happening on Sundays and during the week. The flower ladies do an amazing job with our flowers and they are in church most days attending to the displays. All the brass needs cleaning; this includes the huge candles and the High Altar candle holders, the collection plates and the candle snuffers.

Some jobs are done by our fantastic team of church welcomers, including cleaning the wax out of the candle stand. Peter helps to look after the library, keeping things in order. Joan, our Churchwarden, is always to be seen with Henry the Hoover following close behind.

Some jobs are done each week whilst others less often. Sometimes people will pop in when they know they have a spare hour to help, rather than making a weekly/monthly commitment, and this is great. The church carers provide invaluable support to an extremely busy parish church.

There are so many jobs to be done and we are always happy for people to join our happy band. If there is something which you feel you may be able to help with please don’t hesitate to talk to Hazel our Verger.
