School visits and the curriculum

A visit to All Saints’ links well with many areas of the national curriculum, including RE, History, Citizenship, Literacy and Numeracy. We can tailor our session to suit your curricular requirements.

RE

Key Stages 1 and 2

Unit 1B: What does it mean to belong in Christianity? (Year 1)

Unit 1F: What can we learn from visiting a church? (Year 1)

Unit 2D: Visiting a place of worship – Generic (Year 2)

Unit 3A: What do signs and symbols mean in religion? (Year 3)

Unit 4D: What religions are represented in our neighbourhood? (Year 4)

Unit 5D: How do the beliefs of Christians influence their actions? (Year 5)

Unit 6E: What can we learn from Christian religious buildings? (Year 6)

Additionally, we can bring in aspects of the following elements of the RE curriculum:

Unit 1D: Beliefs and practice – Generic (Year 1)

Unit 2C: Celebrations - Generic (Year 2)

Unit 3C: What do we know about Jesus? (Year 3)

Unit 4C: Why is Easter important for Christians? (Year 4)

History

Key Stages 1 and 2

As All Saints’ is an historic building which has been a part of High Wycombe for over 900 years, it is relevant to many aspects of the study of History.

 

Unit 18: What was it like to live here in the past? (Year 3/4)

 

The dove window features an image of Florence Nightingale which forms part of

We have various memorials from the world wars which are relevant to

Unit 17: What are we remembering on Remembrance Day? (Year 2)

 

We also have a number of memorials to local people which may be relevant for the study of the Victorians.

Citizenship

Key Stages 1 and 2 

It may also be appropriate to consider the church as part of your study of the diversity of community under the citizenship curriculum

Unit 05: Living in a diverse world (Year 1-6)

Literacy

Our Worksheets offer children the chance to write about their impressions of the church and imagine what life might have been like for people living in a different period.

Numeracy

Our worksheets involve using tally charts to count windows with clear glass and windows with stained glass, mapping various features of the church building on a plan of the church
