OUR CHOIR
All Saints’, High Wycombe has a long tradition of fine music which has filled this magnificent place for over 150 years. Choral singing is one of Britain’s richest traditions and a vibrant, living heritage which is often the preserve of our great cathedrals. The choir at All Saints’ is precious; it transforms and inspires worship and enriches the community in High Wycombe.
We are very keen to welcome new members in all parts, particularly Soprano, Tenor and Bass. The Choir has a repertoire from plainsong, the wonders of the Renaissance, classics from the Baroque period right the way through to contemporary music via the choral revival period. (The acting Director of Music has a love of Victorian repertoire and occasionally inflicts this on the choir!)
We rehearse on Thursdays and before the services; we lead the singing at the Sunday morning Eucharist. We sing a range of congregational Mass settings, traditional and contemporary hymns, but there is always an anthem from the Choral Tradition. Choral Evensong usually takes place once a month - this is where we sing choral greats including settings of the canticles, responses, Anglican Chant and, of course an introit and anthem. There are additional services for festivals – one of the highlights is the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which attracts a very large congregation.
We would love to hear from you and commitment can be reasonably flexible. Our aim is to create bench strength so that absences are covered, but we have the benefit of a larger group who can come together for the special occasions.
We would also be very pleased to hear from younger singers who, for example, may be considering Choral Scholarships at university. Singing with us will be very good training. Age is, however, no barrier and we have choristers who are still offering great value to the choir long after retirement age!
If you are interested in finding our more please contact the Parish Office and one of the music team will get in touch.
