oRGAN SPECIFICATIONS & INSTRUCTIONS
Visiting organists are always welcome at All Saints
There is a vacancy for the Director of Music post at present. Philip Wayne is standing in as Director of Music and Oliver Roberts as Assistant Organist. Phil can be contacted by email initially.
The organ is in a poor state at present. The organ is resuscitated four times a year by Nicholson’s. The tuner does a splendid job but would not thank me for going as far as to say that he ‘maintains’ it!
That said, it can still lead a large congregation, and, with careful registration, it is possible to play a varied repertoire.
It is easy to drown a choir and ff is very loud for choristers and congregation on the North side of the church.
GETTING STARTED
As the console lights don’t work, there is a desk lamp arrangement. These are operated from the mains switch by the piano and the hymn book shelf for the Lady Chapel
The console should be locked -please lock it again after you have finished before returning the keys.
To switch on, there is a switch to the right of the console, underneath the manuals (looks like a light switch) ; the blower button is on the console.
PISTONS
The pistons are reliable. To change -set your stops. Turn the red light off. Press the SET piston and, whilst holding it down, press the piston you wish to set. The turn the red light back on.
DIVISIONAL: 1-3 ARE RESERVED FOR RESIDENT ORGANISTS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE 4-8
GENERAL: 1-16 ARE RESERVED FOR RESIDENT ORGANISTS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE 17-32
Any change to this will be indicated with a note on the console.
ORGAN BENCH
The bench is adjustable; please return it as close to its position as you can when you have finished.
SWELL/CHOIR PEDAL
These both work well and create good crescendos and decrescendos. Please open both boxes when you have finished.
